On 31 March, the 3rd 99 Malaysia Wheelchair Basketball League 2019 was held at Gelanggang Bola Keranjang Cheras, hosted in collaboration with the Beautiful Gate Foundation for the Disabled (BGF) and the Malaysian Wheelchair Basketball Federation (MWBF). Emerging champions of the match were the Mighty B, followed by the King and Tenggiling.

 

This league was held in conjunction with “It’s OK to be U” organized by final year Communications students from Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR). Enlightening and educating our society on the disabled community were the prime goals of this event, simultaneously aligning with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals; SDG10: Reduced Inequalities.

 

From informative exhibitions to interactive mini-games, “It’s OK to be U” mainly featured the wheelchair sport matches, celebrating active participants with different types of disabilities throughout Malaysia. Overcoming their own adversity, this event proves that not even physical restrictions become a barrier to aim for the basket, nor the stars!
