KUALA LUMPUR: Students of a Taman Tun Dr Ismail school will be able to compost their food waste in just one day using composting machines stationed at their school.

The activity is part of a project by CIMB Foundation employees to help them recycle organic food waste into compost for farming.

The Zero Waste and Urban Farm Community project is financed by the foundation’s Community Link programme, which aims to encourage CIMB employees to undertake meaningful projects in their local communities, the foundation said in a statement.

The project was launched at Sekolah Kebangsaan Taman Tun Dr Ismail (SKTTDI) 1 recently.

It is being executed in collaboration with AXILE Consulting Sdn Bhd.

The event was launched by CIMB Foundation chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Hamidah Naziadin together with CIMB group commercial banking deputy CEO Ahmad Shazli Kamarulzaman, SKTTDI (1) principal Ramnah Darus and AXILE Consulting managing director Azlan Yaacob.

In the next few months, CIMB Foundation will install five composting machines at strategic places in Taman Tun Dr Ismail.

Malaysians produce 15,000 tonnes of food waste daily, the statement said.
