More trainees now thanks to parent`s foresight

KOTA KINABALU: TABS Sabah FA (Safa) Bandaraya expects more trainees to participate in its junior football development programme which had gained popularity among the newly registered trainers.

The programme caught the attention of parents around the city areas, which showed interest in giving early football exposure to their children by registering them for the programme.

TABS Safa Bandaraya Deputy President, Lokman Sunggim said the presence of new trainees have been so encouraging to the programme and expects more to register.

This has resulted in a positive development as parents has the confidence with the programmes which involves children as young as below 10 years of age until adolescences aged 18 years.

"There are parents who have registered their children aged three to five years into the program after learning that the development programme is a stepping stone for those interested in pursuing football as a career.

"During an announcement by our President, Sulaiman" Mohd Noor during the Hari Raya open house, TABS decided to increase the registration fee to RM20 per month from RM 10 to each registered trainees for the purpose of improving the academy's equipment," he said.

Lokman who is also Sabah Under-19 Assistant Team Manager stated that TABS has previously produced many top local talents that has featured in the state's Premier League, President's Cup and Under-19 squads.

He said that TABS continues to work hard to attract more hidden local talents around the state to participate in the development programme for the future of Sabah football.

"We will progress further with this development program as it receives encouraging response from the community and we also extend our appreciation to all those who supported, especially the CIMB Foundation," he said.

To date, TABS has over 12 accredited trainers headed by the experienced coach Matasan Ahmad to provide effective guidance to trainees according to their age categories.

Lokman also welcomed former state’s Youth Cup coach Awang Sabtu Jamil to contribute his services with TABS in order to make the development programme successful.
