Badminton charity match helps raise funds for school
Issue: Although Malaysians are by nature charitable, they sometimes lack a platform which will enable them to contribute not only money, but also effort and talent towards fundraising for a worthy cause. Solution: In March 2009, CIMB Foundation together with Seri Petaling Residents Association (SPRA) and Pioneer Sports Management organised a charity badminton match to raise funds for SJK (C) La Salle, the first Chinese school in the Seri Petaling area. The charity match presented a rare opportunity for donors – to pair up with a national shuttler and play a match against another donor-and-national shuttler pair. Our national shuttlers took time out from their hectic schedules to participate in the charity match as a way of giving back to their fans who had supported them throughout the years. Results: A total of RM25,008 was raised from the event, with RM15,008 coming from public donations and RM10,000 from the Foundation. The event also attracted a lot of fans who took this opportunity to meet the national shuttlers.
