Kuala Lumpur: CIMB Foundation’s aim to assist its Community Link project beneficiaries to be self-sustainable, by funding the necessary tools needed to run their projects, bore fruit as seen from their achievements celebrated today at the CIMB Foundation’s Hari Raya event.

Dato’ Mohd Shukri Hussin, CEO, CIMB Foundation commented, “Our event is very meaningful as some of the sumptuous spread served today were prepared by our Community Link partners. Among the socio-economic development projects funded by the Foundation, we are especially proud with the achievements of seven NGO’s we have funded – many of these having projects with the theme of food production.”

The NGOs are:

  • Pusat Pemulihan Dalam Komuniti Jitra

  • Persatuan Pemulihan Orang-Orang Cacat Daerah Kubang Pasu , Jitra

  • Ray Of Hope , Ipoh

  • Pertubuhan Ibu Tunggal Pulau Tuba

  • Lighthouse, Penang

  • Asia Community Service, Penang

  • Badan Kebajikan Psikiatri, Hospital Permai, Johor

As a recognition of the success of its Community Link projects, the Foundation also presented RM5,000 each to the beneficiaries. Dato’ Azlina Aziz, accompanied by her husband, Dato’ Sri Nazir Razak, Group Chief Executive, CIMB Group, presented the mock cheques to the recipients.

“I am especially pleased to witness the success our beneficiaries have in running small businesses despite the limitations and challenges they faced. It is compelling to see their perseverance in improving their capabilities, achievements and being able to generate their own income. Our collective efforts at the Foundation, together with the cooperation with CIMB Bank and CIMB Islamic have definitely shown the results we envisioned,” conclude Shukri.

Giving back to society is very much the DNA of CIMB Group’s corporate philosophy. With the funding of RM24 million, more than 500 Community Link projects have successfully been implemented since 2007. Approximately 300 beneficiaries from the Foundation’s various projects – such as training schemes for the disabled, business training skills for the less fortunate, cataract operations, preservation of the environment, training for badminton and soccer – were present at the Hari Raya event.
